Parimatch teams up with Esports Integrity Commission

Parimatch Holding, the international betting platform, today announces that it has entered into the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) to combat fraud in esports. Parimatch is already collaborating with FederBet in the fight against fraud and will now provide ESIC with betting data in order to help investigate possible cases of match-fixing and fraud. Parimatch’s membership in the ESIC underlines its belief that it is vital to promote openness and honesty in traditional sports as much as esports. According to ESIC, the number of betting alerts potentially connected to match-fixing nearly doubled between 2017 to 2018, increasing from 39 counts to 74. To oppose this and other threats to esports, ESIC continuously extends its Members and Supporters list, for which the bookmaker community is a key focus. Parimatch is a leading bookmaker in the field of esports, and continues to support esports in the CIS and Europe. In addition to a full line of esports betting, Parimatch also sponsors esports teams and recently announced its own Parimatch League in Dota2. ESIC Commissioner, Ian Smith, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Parimatch into our global anti-match fixing supporter network. To have a key betting operator, with a huge esports offering in Russian language territories, become a member is a big step forward for ESIC as we seek to expand our suspicious betting alert system. The team at Parimatch has been wonderful and very professional to work with, and we are looking forward to continuing our co-operation with them.” Head of Esports at Parimatch, Stepan Shulga, added: “Parimatch stands for complete transparency and honesty in working with its clients. We care about fair play, not only in traditional sports but also in esports, as the fastest growing and most promising category. We do not see reason for different approaches to traditional sports and esports, and respect the choice of each fan. That is why we did not hesitate to become a partner to ESIC in the fight against fraud, and thank the ESIC team for their initiative. Targeted actions aimed at identifying suspicious matches in esports can help the entire industry to be sustainable and reliable, both for people who are keen on betting and ordinary fans of esports.”

What does ‘compliance’ mean for Parimatch?

Parimatch has transformed from a bookmaker trading out of physical stores to a cutting-edge online sports betting platform which currently boasts over 2.6 million customers. With this level of growth comes great responsibility. Regulation is a key component of the Parimatch business, as it protects our customers by setting transparent and reliable rules when it comes to betting and gaming. Parimatch’s Chief Compliance Officer Yuriy Shevchuk explains "Whilst Parimatch is proud to be daring and different, we don’t push the boundaries when it comes to compliance. We currently hold nine gaming licences across six separate jurisdictions on four continents. The fast-changing nature of the betting and gaming industry means that we make every effort to keep up-to-date with regulatory change across all geographies we operate in, by consistently communicating with best practice licensors and licensees, even where we might not have a licence ourselves, in order to stay ahead of the game." "At Parimatch, it is my responsibility to maintain our reputation as a responsible business amongst our customers, partners and most importantly regulators. This reputation must evolve from within the business itself, which is why department heads, customer facing teams and Parimatch senior management all attend workshops and training sessions to streamline our approach to compliance and subsequently maximise the customer experience. Protecting Parimatch’s licence to operate, and the needs of our customers, is the backbone of our business."

How values are born: Parimatch’s experience

Company values are an indicator of a business’ integrity, and acts as a beacon for all employees. Values are the foundations of the the vision and corporate culture of any business. It is a unique tool which connects employees from across the world, and empowers them to work together in a certain way. But How do they work? And how does a company choose them? Do all companies need values? We are pretty sure that most companies have a set of values, but they are not always communicated well. After all, if you have a small business and only a small number of staff - it is easier to communicate to the team and find common solutions. But if you grow to become a large international company, values become even more important. Why is that? Values are the pillar on which the vision, culture, goals, and development strategy of the company are built. It gives employees around the world something to focus on. Where to find your company values? Definitely not sitting in the office. Parimatch found ours in the mountains of Georgia. Sixty-five managers from across all regions we operate in decided to live the company's values by getting closer with nature. They divided into teams and made a four-hour mountain crossing at an altitude of 1281 meters. It was in these uncomfortable conditions that the managers were able to feel how our company values helped, or indeed hindered the experience. It is very important not only to write values on paper, but also to have an emotional reaction to ensure that you truly live the values you say that you do. How did we make this happen? The Parimatch team initially divided into seven groups. Each group had to live its own value. Inside the group, each participant had a role: leader (ambassador of the value), hero, motivator, support man, shaman (people who recorded the emotional and physical state of the team during the experience), as well as an opponent of the value. Why is an adversary of value to the group? It was this person who questioned the credibility of the value. The arguments of this participant helped the group to agree on the basic principles of each value. Hiking in the mountains is a fantastic adventure, but at the same time, it is a test. It is by overcoming the challenge that you find true meaning. In addition to the main task of climbing the mountain path, participants had to apply their value to the challenge and observe their emotions, feelings, thoughts and how their relationships within the group changed. When the participants returned from their mountain hike, they became stronger, friendlier, and spiritually richer. The next day, the teams gathered again. They analyzed their feelings, and discussed, and developed the basic principles and meanings of their values. Each person understood the values in his way. The goal was to come to a conclusion which would satisfy everyone without exception. And of course, at the end, each group made a presentation of their values and shared their feelings with the rest of the participants. In just 2 days, 65 people decided upon seven company values. What's next? Now it is crucial to communicate and implement these values within the company, as well as to external stakeholders. Tatiana Davydova, Chief HR Officer: "Our task is not just to write down values on paper, but to give our employees a real opportunity to live these values. In 2020, we will spend every month living and breathing a certain value, and all our activities will be aimed at showcasing that value from different perspectives. This includes lectures, competitions, changes in nutrition programs, and much, much more. What we certainly do not want is to impose these values within the organization. But they are what our business is anchored in. We will share our values with employees in a friendly and comfortable way. And we believe that, over time, they will begin to embody these values, and help our employees become even stronger.” Andrii Suslenko, Communications Director: "A company that employs corporate values is a good sign for any external partner. It is important to show these values to the world. How? Each of Parimatch's employees lives our values. Our TOP managers are continually participating in international industry events. Their vision and principles are the authoritative voice of our values to our business partners. Thanks to our HR practices, our employees also communicate the company's values to society, to their friends and families. And of course, we demonstrate the implementation of company values through the media and PR campaigns. You can easily find videos from our corporate events on our social and YouTube channels including: PM Summer Camp, PM Night, Family Day. At these events, we live our values and enable our families and partners to live them with us. Our values are not about PR or business results. It is about us as individuals. And we are always happy to share our experiences and achievements on this subject."

Maksym Liashko on the benefits of gambling legislation reforms in Ukraine

Parimatch Partner Maksym Liashko on the benefits of gambling legislation reforms in Ukraine Last year, the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky took steps to reform the country’s gambling laws, with the aim of creating a fair and transparent market for betting companies to operate in. These reforms will allow online betting operators like Parimatch to apply for a licence to enter the Ukrainian market, creating thousands of jobs, increasing tax revenue and encouraging technological innovation, whilst also attracting investment into the country. This new legislation is of vital importance to Parimatch. Ukraine is the country where we were founded over 25 years ago, it is where many of our employees are based, and where, through the PM Foundation, we have invested much of our CSR activities. The President has been bold in his thinking to deliver reform in a short space of time, but like any project with this level of ambition, it has been plagued by delays. So far, we have seen 10 versions of the new bill debated in Parliament, with many amendments made. This does however make sense, when you think about the complexity and rigour required in a heavily regulated industry such as betting. Any new legislation needs to be right. Thankfully, the reforms are finally on track to become a reality in 2020. In order to ensure that only reputable betting operators are granted a licence, the price of the licence is high. We see this as a good thing, as it ensures that only reputable businesses will be given a licence to operate. But this high licence fee needs to be balanced with the level of income tax paid by operators. The current bill as it stands, includes both a high licence fee and a high tax rate for operators, making it an unfairly punitive tax system. We hope that as the bill is further discussed, this imbalance will be addressed, creating a fair and transparent operating environment for all.

The 2020 Super Bowl touches down at Parimatch

The Super Bowl is without doubt the biggest date in the American sporting calendar, and this year’s game did not disappoint. Thousands of American football fans filled the Hard Rock stadium in Miami, Florida to support the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs as they battled for National Football League (NFL) supremacy. The Chiefs ended their 50-year wait for Super Bowl victory, with excitement reaching fever pitch in the final quarter, when the team came back from 20-10 down to score 21 points with six minutes to spare. It was a big night for business too, as companies paid up to $5.6 million dollars for a 30 second advertising slot. Google, Squarespace, Jeep and Cheetos all featured in the commercial breaks of the 3.5-hour game, leaning on the theme of 80s/90s nostalgia as their creative inspiration. This year’s game ranked as the 10th most watched Super Bowl of all time with over 148.5 million people tuning in, according to Fox Sports. The NFL is growing in popularity across the Atlantic too, attracting support from sporting fans and global business alike. At Parimatch, we saw impressive levels of interest in the 2020 Super Bowl, with 1300 bets placed on the game. As the half-time performance began, with Shakira and J-Lo lighting up the stage with a 14-minute medley of their greatest hits, bets were placed and adjusted as anticipation of the outcome rapidly increased. By the final whistle, a third of our betting customers had predicted that the Chiefs would be victorious. The clear interest from Parimatch customers in American sports shows the increasing popularity of betting on international sporting games. We are excited for a big year of sport ahead – with the Masters in April, UEFA Champions League in May, and of course the Euro 2020 tournament in June. Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs!

Any grassroots development of this type benefits the industry as a whole, and we wish good luck to all participants" said Stepan Shulga, Head of Esports at Parimatch.

Parimatch welcomes the decision from Parliament on the legislative regulation of gambling in Ukraine

The international holding Parimatch welcomes the decision from Parliament on the legislative regulation of gambling in Ukraine. The adoption of Bill 2285-D in its first reading is the first step towards creating a fair and transparent gambling market, which will in turn attract investment and introduce new technology to the country. Once legalized, the market will create thousands of jobs, contribute to both state and local budgets, lead to an increase in tourism, and will help to counter corruption in professional sports. Also, the increased tax revenues generated will provide much needed funds to support culture, medicine, and sports in Ukraine. In order for the gambling to be fit for legalization and become an important contributor to the state and society, it is critical that laws are developed in line with best practice international standards. Any investor should feel that the market conditions are fair, and, above all, taxation is reasonable. Therefore, by the second reading, we expect amendments will be prepared for the Tax Code of Ukraine. It is essential to balance the price of licenses with tax burdens. International business and Ukrainian companies will not be able to invest in the Ukrainian economy without an understanding of the taxation concept and a transparent model of return on investment. Members of Parliament of Ukraine shoulder great responsibility when preparing the bill for its second reading, which must meet the highest international standards for legalizing the gambling industry. Parimatch is open to dialogue and working with lawmakers as part of the finalization of the bill. We are happy to share our comprehensive global expertise and knowledge gained over the years operating as a successful, internationally focused and responsible gambling company.

The Importance of Partnerships in CSR Projects

Parimatch Foundation’s Chairwoman Katerina Belorusskaya explains how taking a collaborative approach is key to delivering successful CSR projects. Giving back to society has been part of Parimatch’s DNA since the business was founded 25 years ago. However, it wasn’t until 2018 that the company’s CSR initiatives were formalised with the launch of Parimatch Foundation, and we haven’t looked back since. Parimatch Foundation has helped us to channel our CSR activities more effectively, meaning that we can deliver long term projects which really make a big impact on the ground in the communities where we operate. It is no secret that CSR programmes aimed at ensuring the healthy development of children’s bodies and minds have a positive impact on both the economic and social wellbeing of society. It is for this reason that the Foundation’s main goal for 2020 is to unite business, government and the public sector to come together and use the power of sport to help children in need. For example, in Ukraine, we are teaming up with the Ministry of Education, the Department of Sport, and several sporting federations to launch an educational platform for physical education teachers in schools across the country. The platform will give P.E teachers access to the latest innovative teaching tools and methods, helping children to engage with sport in new ways. We also have plans to work closely with parents, encouraging them to share in sporting moments with their children, whether that be a simple game of basketball in the backyard, or a trip to see the national football team play. By empowering teachers to deliver lessons which are interesting and above all fun, coupled with inspiring parents to spend time with their family in a sporting environment, we hope that children will realise the positive impact sport and exercise can have on their everyday life. Projects like this would not be possible without taking a collaborative approach to working with external partners. When it comes to CSR, the more people or organisations you can coalesce around a common goal, the bigger and better the impact will be on communities who need help the most.

To Win over Esports Fans, Authenticity is Key

Nowadays, esports is moving out of the sidelines and into the mainstream. Its popularity is growing rapidly, in such a way that it may overtake more conventional sports. This means the marketing value of esports is huge. By supporting esports teams, brands get direct access to a large and engaged audience, mostly comprising the millennial generation. However, as the market is not yet fully mature, it does not require large investments in marketing when compared to more traditional sports like football or hockey. Yet, you still do not see many large corporations sponsoring esports teams, unlike betting companies, which have been quick to show interest in the field. In fact, betting companies were the first to identify the opportunity to place their logos with esports teams. “Bookmakers were the first to sponsor esports, but big guys will come too, such as Nike, Coca Cola, and Pepsi. Sponsorship will become more expensive. It will be like a mature field” said Parimatch CEO Sergey Portnov from the stage of WebSummit 2019. When it comes to sponsorship, is it enough to just have a logo on the t-shirt of an esports team? According to Portnov, this is a very primitive form of promotion and it has little value. In order to attract players having the logo is not enough, instead, it is necessary to cultivate the spirit of esports within the business. Parimatch’s leadership recognized the commercial opportunities in esports and built a new department to focus specifically on developing their own esports marketing and product offers. “You have to have a team in your company who's obsessed with esports, then they will build an esports focused culture within the business. This culture will be broadcast to the players. Esports lovers sense inauthenticity. If you are fake, they won’t play with you. In this business, it is necessary to be honest and sincere”, Sergey stated. Parimatch is actively developing an esports focus to its activities. Parimatch Holding partners with many esports events, including the Forge of Masters CS: GO tournament from WePlay, which has its own Dota2 League from the organizers of Epic Events and Ruhub studio. In addition, Parimatch partners with Virtus.pro, the legendary esports team. This not only increases brand loyalty, and attracts new customers, but builds recognition amongst partners.

Parimatch CEO joined global business leaders at Web Summit in Lisbon

Web Summit, the largest tech event in the world brings together business leaders, celebrities, politicians and scientists in Lisbon, Portugal, to discuss and debate emerging technology trends. Parimatch’s very own CEO Sergey Portnov spoke onstage at this year’s Summit alongside Bruce Stein, CEO of aXiomatic, an esports and video game investment business, and the Associated Press’ Global Sports Correspondent Rob Harris, where amongst other things they discussed the risks and rewards of the esports industry. When it comes to the marketing and sponsorship of esports, the industry is still in its infancy, with bookmakers like Parimatch being the first brands to recognize the opportunities and rewards in esports team sponsorship. Soon enough big brands like Nike and Coca-Cola will come along with even bigger marketing budgets, and make esports sponsorship more expensive. Until then, bookmakers are happy to be driving revenue in the esports industry. But it isn’t just about giving money to have your logo on a team’s shirt. According to Portnov: “It is important to build a culture of esports fans if your company is sponsoring a team. You have to be truthful and build a love of sports into the business.” When it comes to the risks associated with esports, like most traditional sports, it is vulnerable to match-fixing. “The risk depends on the event,” says Portnov. “Dota International is less likely to be fixed, as so much is at stake, it is much more likely to be seen in lower league tournaments. But Parimatch doesn’t really see this as too much of a problem, because most esports bets ree for small amounts – the average is $5, on a mobile device. Of course, there are fraudsters out there, but it is much more worrying when somebody bets $100,000 on a soccer game, we would rather take lots of smaller bets on esports.” With 2.5 gamers on the planet, playing everything from FIFA to Fortnite to Counter-Strike, either recreationally or competitively, there is no denying that esports is big business. One thing is for sure, the popularity of esports is only going to grow, and with that so do the risk and rewards for brands putting their name to the burgeoning industry.

Parimatch Crowned Winners of Marketing Campaign of the Year at the 2019 SBC Awards

The 6th annual SBC Awards took place in London on 3rd December, one of the most prestigious events in the international bookmaking industry’s calendar. The ceremony celebrates and rewards expertise and innovation in betting and gaming, with 41 awards across a range of categories up for grabs. Parimatch was delighted to be nominated across four categories – Esports operator, marketing campaign, sponsorship and employer of the year. Parimatch beat off stiff competition to take home the award for the marketing campaign of the year, with its “fired up to win” campaign, a partnership with UFC and sporting champion Conor McGregor. "This award is massive recognition for our unique and inspiring marketing activities,” said Parimatch’s CEO Sergey Portnov. “Awards like this ignite the fire in our belly to continue to push the boundaries and be bold and brave when it comes to creativity.” [caption id="attachment_566" align="alignnone" width="1080"] Parimatch launched the “fired up to win” campaign in February of this year, rebooting its branding including a new visual style across digital communications, social networks and the mobile app, whilst also announcing Conor McGregor, one of the most famous athletes of our time, as a brand ambassador. “Conor embodies true courage, a fighter who is not afraid of new challenges and is always fired up to win. Like Parimatch, McGregor always remains true to himself, but also ready to push the boundaries beyond sports. He was a natural fit for our new, and now award-winning marketing campaign” Said Portnov. “This is a small win for him, his main win should come on January 18 during his comeback fight with Donald Cerrone. We hope this award will charge him to win with Parimatch even more in 2020.” A month after the campaign launch, Parimatch saw an increase in consumer registrations of 169%, cementing the campaign’s winning status early on. Congratulations to all the winners, Parimatch looks forward to seeing you again at the SBC Awards in 2020!

How Parimatch ambassadors help communicate company values

Not just a famous face: how brand ambassadors can help communicate company values Choosing a famous face as a brand ambassador is a big decision for any business. It is crucial that the ambassador embodies the spirit of the brand, living and breathing its values, mission, and purpose. When you get it right, a corporate partnership of this sort can be a win-win for both the ambassador and the brand. At Parimatch, we work with sporting legends who embody our fighting spirit as brand ambassadors - brash, confident, invincible and brave. Among them are Mike Tyson, Conor McGregor, Artem Lobov, and the Shevchenko sisters. Our brand ambassador activations can be seen across all of our owned channels, a great place to showcase the rich engaging content which these partnerships produce. Giving local media access to sporting superstars through our ambassador agreements has, in turn, led to increased awareness of the brand amongst media across the globe. When Conor McGregor was recently in Ukraine for a press conference, UFC fans heard the sensational announcement that he planned on returning to the octagon, news which very quickly went viral around the world. At a separate press conference in Kyiv, Mike Tyson shared insights of his personal life and what obstacles he had to fight on the road to success. Together with Parimatch, he also urged players to gamble responsibly. But we don’t just use our brand ambassadors to interact with media, we also like to tap into their expert knowledge of their sport and position them as betting experts. For example, UFC star Artem Lobov sat alongside Parimatch’s CEO Sergey Portnov at the Betting on Sports conference, where they discussed how bookmakers can be more creative. More recently, UFC fighters the Shevchenko sisters accompanied Parimatch to the WebSummit conference in Lisbon, where they shared leadership lessons and discussed how champions are made. At Parimatch, we see our brand ambassador partnerships as going beyond just attaching a famous face to our logo. A brand ambassador reflects the culture of a business back to its customers, which is why it is important to use this kind of marketing activity correctly.
